This week we recognize a seven-point weekend, a shutout that clinched a playoff series, and a defenseman who scored a clutch goal.
Josh Benson, Fairbanks Ice Dogs, North American Hockey League: Benson made 18 saves to shut out the Janesville Jets on Saturday night as his Ice Dogs clinched the Midwest Division finals with a 1-0 win.
Caleb Hite, Fairbanks Ice Dogs, NAHL: Hite scored two goals, including the game winner, in the Ice Dogs’ 4-2 win Friday night over the Jets.
Jakub Sirota, Lone Star Brahmas, NAHL: The rangy defenseman assisted on the Brahmas’ first and third goals in Lone Star’s 3-1 win over the Shreveport Mudbugs. The Saturday night victory forced Game 5 on Sunday.
Roberts Baranovksis, Shreveport Mudbugs, NAHL: Baranovskis scored a pair for the Mudbugs as they eliminated the Brahmas Sunday night 3-2. He also had an assist in Saturday’s game.
Chase Grescock, Youngstown Phantoms, United States Hockey League: Grescock scored a goal and had two assists in the 5-1 Saturday night win over Team USA that put Youngstown in the Clark Cup Finals. It might have been a bit of a letdown for the Merrimack College commitment after he scored four goals the night before as the Phantoms beat Team USA 7-5.
Nolan Sawchuk, Minot Minotauros, NAHL: The defenseman, who’s committed the University of Massachusetts-Lowell’s Division 1 program, scored the game winner in double overtime on Friday night. The 2-1 win clinched the series over the Austin Bruins.
