It was announced on Wednesday January 30th that Brandon West has been hired as the new Head Coach and General Manager of the West Kelowna Warriors. West will replace Geoff Grimwood who was hired as the team's head coach in August of last year.
Warriors owner and President Kim Dobranski had this to say about his new Head Coach. "Brandon is an experienced BCHL Head Coach who is fully capable of putting together a first class program." He went on to say that "The Interior Division is a tough division and I cannot think of anyone better suited to the task. As we head into the playoffs I am confident that Brandon can create a formula for success and take our team deep into the playoffs and beyond."
Dobranski also confirmed that West will also take a leading role in the team's U18/U16/U15 prospects program which is designed to spot futures for the club. West was previously assistant coach with the Warriors before taking on head coaching positions in Salmon Arm and in Surrey. In a statement he thanked Dobranski for "this opportunity to be named the Head Coach/General Manager of the West Kelowna Warriors." He goes on to say that "It is an honour to be back in West Kelowna and work with this elite crop of players. I am excited to get started and look forward to being part of this great community."
In another statement Dobranski commented on the exit of former coach Geoff Grimwood. "I would like to thank Geoff Grimwood for his contribution to our club and wish him much success in his future endeavours." In August of 2018 Geoff Grimwood was hired on as Head Coach only to be abruptly fired from the position. This resulted in the players walking out of an on ice session in protest. The BCHL had to intervene resulting in Grimwood being rehired as Coach. Dobranski apologized for the situation in a press conference.
